Every mask begins as wood. Between the blank and the finished piece lie a clear drawing, sharp carving knives and many precise steps.
BEFORE THE FIRST CUT
Wood selection and drawing come first.
Wood species, grain and growth direction determine how the blank can be worked. Proportions and lines are then set before the first form is cut.

Form & depth
Volume is carved out. Eyes, mouth and cheeks gain tension and expression.

Fine cuts, colour, horns and visible tool marks complete the piece.

Chainsaw, mallet, carving knives and sanding tools each have a distinct job. The form and intended surface determine which tool is used.
Clean work requires a steady grip, sharp tools and enough time.
